Motive
Introduction
Problems
Many existing school apps provided by universities are either too complex or lacking essential functionality. Our findings from research proved students struggle with staying organized and often use multiple platforms to track assignments, deadlines, study time, and overall schedule. This can make it difficult for students to manage their workloads effectively. Most of these apps also lack visual aesthetics and color personalization making students less likely to want to use these apps.
SOLUTIONS
More pops of color and visually pleasing design
Progress tracking page to keep up with progress
Study section with implemented timer
Calendar with assignments and events
Home page with overview to make quick check-ins easier
LESSONS LEARNED
Going through the full process of coming up with a design was very cool. I learned that your audience and their opinions are extremely important for creating your design. I improved my skills on using auto-layout and designing cohesive pages. Something I would do differently if I did this again is create a more modern design and do more user research. I would also create more pages and implement more prototyping to make it more high level.
What if staying on top of school work felt effortless? Motive is a new app designed to help students handle their workload. This was accomplished in Interaction Design 1 using Figma. This was a team effort and my role was to help research, create brand personas, wireframe designs, and prototype a few pages. This project was done over the course of 3 months. Figma was solely used to create this app design. You can view the process, key steps and our final design with the links below.
